A faerie-house trail

Maggie Maggie River Trail

A riverside wander past the River Keepers, the Faerie Dispatch and a whole neighbourhood of craft faeries.

Where it begins

Starts at 34 Clairmont Street, at the Aquatic Garden.

Cross the bridge into the Aquatic Garden at 34 Clairmont Street and follow the path along the banks of the Maggie Maggie. First you will meet the River Keepers, who keep a watchful eye on all the comings and goings along the water. Next comes The Lodge, where visiting faeries stay a night or two when they are on holiday.

Faeries adore mail and staying in touch, so be sure to stop at the Faerie Dispatch — home to the Pixie Post, the Messenger Bird Aviary and the Wish Processing Centre. Your final stop is the Artisan’s Village, in the shady grove at the end, where tiny talented craft faeries keep their studios and workshops: artist studios, the wing repair shop, dressmakers and wood workers.

These little artisans live in the enclave opposite their workshops, which you will spot as you circle the loop before you head back to the bridge where you started — the town has cleared a little space at the end of this trail so the faeries could make a loop! Keep your eyes open; you never know what faerie magic you might have missed.

What to look for

  • The River Keepers, watching over the water
  • The Lodge, where holidaying faeries stay a night or two
  • The Faerie Dispatch — Pixie Post, Messenger Bird Aviary & Wish Processing Centre
  • The Artisan’s Village — studios, the wing repair shop, dressmakers & wood workers

A faerie tip: Come early, when the light is low and the dew still sparkles — it is the best time to catch a glint of faerie dust by the water.
